Founded by Geraldo Rodrigues in 1991 to promote Brasilia culture, Quilombo do Samba has developed into a first class performance band. Adding sound, color and movement to many different festivals, carnivals, and corporate events. Such events ranging from the Queens Jubilee Celebrations to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury playing with Basement Jaxx from the streets of Notting Hill to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall. Quilombo do Samba is also a cultural arts organization which provides tuition in the combined carnival arts, music, dance and costume making in schools, play schemes and carnival development projects, of which our performance band is a part.
Quilombo do Samba is not just a band to watch, it is a show that delivers an experience, from the musical passion to the sensuality of its samba dancers; the euphoria of a tropical party, in vibrant and exotic carnival costumes.
Quilombo do Samba have performed at many venues, including the I.C.A., The Rocket, The Forum, Turnmills, Jazz Cafe, Shepherds Bush Empire, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall. Quilombo do Samba takes part in many UK and European festivals and parades including London Notting Hill Carnival, The Thames Festival, Sambaco, Coburg (Germany) The Queens Jubilee Parade always attracting wide media coverage.
COMBINED ARTS
Quilombo do Samba provides teachers of Brazilian combined arts, Samba percussion, dance and costume making workshops for projects, courses, and individual sessions for all ages and abilities.
